2018, chapter 45: ‘Before He Cheats’ by Carrie Underwood (nr. 157)

Carrie has lost her husband. He was the one to leave her, but it was not a surprise to her. She knew he was cheating on her.

It had led her to stand outside a bar he had gone into.

She thought about how he was probably slow dancing with a bleached-blond tramp, and she was probably getting frisky. He was probably buying her some fruity little drink ’cause she couldn’t shoot whiskey. Then he was probably up behind her with a pool stick, showing her how to shoot a combo. She was probably up singing some white-trash version of Shania karaoke. She was probably saying “I’m drunk”, making him think, he was gonna get lucky. So he was probably dabbing on 3 dollars worth of that bathroom Polo right now…

She was furious and looking for revenge. So she dug her keys into the side of his pretty little souped-up four-wheel drive and carved her name into his leather seats. She took a Louisville slugger to both headlights and slashed a hole in all four tires.

She smiled to herself. Maybe next time he’d think before he cheated. She might have saved the next girl a little trouble from him. At the very least, he wouldn’t cheat on her again.

Now he’s apparently in love with some other chick. And that admittedly hurts a little. but She’s over it and better for it because their messy break-up. Guess she should thank him for that. Now she’s just hoping the new girl gets better sex and doesn’t have to fake it, like Little Mix had to.

Now she’ll live her life. She’s done with him. She has deleted all his pics and blocked his number from her phone. She’s not sure she loved him anyway.

2018, chapter 9: ‘See You Again’ by Carrie Underwood (nr. 121)

Taylor has done something so horrifying on her revenge mission against her ex that it has made Perry, the man who loves her and has followed along, rethink his choice to do so. And Taylor can see that. So she tells him that he is free to leave, tells him goodbye and turns around.

And he’s gone, fading away into the setting sun. It breaks her heart, but she carries on and doesn’t cry. Because she’s not doing this for him, or her ex for that matter. She is doing this so she can see her child. And she will see it again, whatever she has to do for that to happen.

The child is the stars and light she follows. She carries her child with her in her heart and mind, until she sees it again. And thus she never feels lonely in the shadows.

At night she listens to the echoes in the wind calling her back to the time where they lived near the water and was a happy family. Where she had her child with her. She smiles at the thought.

She will do whatever it takes – even if it means losing another man she has loved.

2018, chapter 8: ‘How You Remind Me’ by Nickelback (nr. 120)

Perry knows how Taylor responded to Wills offer. She comes back grinning about her actions, even as she apologises to Perry.

Perry doesn’t see the humour. He wanted this story to be different. A voice starts screaming in his head: “Are we having fun yet?”. He is suddenly reminded of, what he has gotten himself into. What it has made him. What he has sought at the bottom of every bottle to forget.

He didn’t succeed in being the wise man and removing her darkness. And following her around, stealing food to survive, never felt good. Falling in love with Taylor was a mistake. Following his heart was a mistake. He was blinded by love and saw that before. But now he feels it too.

And she knew how much his love for her had made him accept. That’s why she’s apologising now, even though it seems to kill her to do so.

He knows rationally that this is crazy, but his heart is in charge – and evidently hates him.
