97: ‘Hurt’ by Christina Aguilera

Will lost his mother to suicide. This is not a recent thing. What is recent, is him learning what made her commit suicide. He learns that his grandmother had mental problems. Apparently, his mother inherited them.

This makes Will see his mother in a different light.

She was not easy to be around as a child. She was demanding and they would often have conflicts and hurt each other. Now that memory hurts.

He now misses her voice. He wonders if she is looking down upon him. Would she be proud of him? He wishes he could go back in time and spend just one more day with her, hold her in his arms, take the pain away, thank her for everything and forgive all of her mistakes. But it’s dangerous to think like that…

Chapter 60: ‘Space Bound’ by Eminem

Steven and Natasha are stuck in a loveless marriage. Or rather that is how Natasha sees it. This is how Steven sees it:

He loves her so much. But after the break-up with Pink years ago, he had difficulties showing his feelings. He had trouble trusting and believed love to be evil.

That belief changed when he met Natasha in Vegas. When they touched, he felt a rush, they both did. With a clutch they sealed a promise of what could be. At first it’s just torturous lust.

Lust turned to love. He starts out by warning her, that he could become dangerous, if she broke up with him, because he has been hurt before. She either didn’t take it seriously or forgot – possibly both.

He was so sweet at first. He told her in complete honesty that she took his breath away.

He would do anything for her. He loved her endlessly and feels weak around her. She felt the same, but held back at first in an attempt to not scare him away. But as she became more and more expressive of her love, his difficulties with showing emotion caused him to draw back.

This was when Natasha stopped believing he ever loved her. And by then he was too withdrawn to argue against it.

So she cut herself loose.  They were now married in name only.

He can stand this for one year and six months. He finds the strength to finally pour his heart out to her.

But by then she no longer wants him. And she no longer wants to talk. She tries to leave. In an act of desperation, he grabs her and chokes her. He ends up snapping her neck.

Tears steaming down his cheeks, he puts a gun to his temple and tells her once more how he much he loves her.

57: ‘Up & Up’ by Coldplay

Steven earns his wealth from owning orange farms.
He worked towards this dream for years working meal to meal.
Natasha supported  and helped him – most of the time. There was in fact a period in which they were broken up – and it actually broke Steven’s heart. They got back together and healed. They lived trough hardship, seeing each sunrise as a gift.

No links, still more than 25 words and still no computer. But even if mine doesn’t come home by next week, next post will be written on a computer.

Like, follow, all that, if you want.

48: ‘ My Mamma Said’ by Aqua

Despite the unhappiness that infects Steven and Natasha’s marriage, Natasha stays for the sake of their children. She gives up her life so that they can have a happier life.

Gaga, the older daughter, notices her mother becoming more and more unhappy. And she wants to do something about it. She thanks her for doing it but asks her to leave.

Natasha shakes off her concern. She tells her that  the best thing in life was getting Gaga and loving her higher than anything else in this world, and the worst thing in life is getting used to loving somebody higher than anything else in this world, knowing you’re going to lose it all in time. So she wants to do this for her.

It doesn’t get easier, when Rachel, the younger daughter, is actively working with Gaga. Rachel begs for Natasha to not leave.

Natasha stays. She stays and dies a slow death. Her mind wanders to all that way her life could have turned out. She becomes passive and spends most of her time lying around – and Gaga can’t look at her without crying.

Rachel, however, keeps holding on to her mother, begging her not to leave and run away from her mind and life. To release herself from her imagination and be with her family.

Both daughters circle their mother begging her to listen to them.

47: ‘Mean Girls’ by Rachel Crow

Natascha and Steven has another daughter, whose name is Rachel. She’s at a boarding school and she is being bullied by the girls there.

They avoid her to the point of leaving the table, when she arrives. They call her names.

This gets to Rachel. She runs home to her room and locks herself in, so she can cry. She hears everyone’s having fun outside, she tells herself, that this is it. She won’t let it get to her no more, she doesn’t want to feel this way.

Why did she let it go so far? She decides to comb them out of her curls and not let them run her world. She will ignore them instead.

She soon has to put this to the test, when everyone is wearing bubblegum-pink, whereas she is wearing blue. They all laugh at her – including a former friend, who’s now very popular. Instead of being devastated and beginning to cry, she gets angry and confront her former friend angrily, taunting her for doing the easy thing and bullying Rachel instead of standing by Rachel’s side. She reminds her, that it might one day be her, who everyone will avoid, because she is no longer cool. And she says, she hopes she will be forgiven on that day.

44: ‘Why Don’t You Love Me’ by Beyonce

There is no love in Steven and Natasha’s marriage. And she decides to do something about it, specifically to talk to him about it. Steven however does not want to, so she has to convince him to that first: ”Now, now, now, honey. You better sit down and look around, cause you must’ve bumped yo’ head. And I love you enough to talk some sense back into you, baby. I’d hate to see you come home, me, the kids and the dog is gone.”

When him finally listening, she asks him:  ”I give you everything you want, everything you need. Even your friends say I’m a good woman. All I need to know is why? Why don’t you love me? Tell me, baby, why don’t you love me, when I make me so damn easy to love? And why don’t you need me? Tell me, baby, why don’t you need me, when I make me so damn easy to need?”

Her voice is cracking, when she reminds him, why he should love her: ” I got beauty, I got class, I got style, and I got @ss. And you don’t even care to care.”

He tries not to look at her, so she says: ”Looka here. I even put money in the bank account. Don’t have to ask no one to help me out. You don’t even notice that.”

She continues: ”I got beauty, I got heart. Keep my head in them books, I’m sharp. But you don’t care to know, I’m smart.”

His attention once again strays, so she recaptures it: ”Now, now now now now now now. I got moves in your bedroom. Keep you happy with the nasty things I do. But you don’t seem to be in tune.”

By now she is desperate to get him to see! with a voice more cracked than ever she pleas: ”There’s nothing not to love about me. No, no, there’s nothing not to love about me. I’m lovely. There’s nothing not to need about me. No, no, there’s nothing not to need about me.”

When this doesn’t work either, she realises that the problem doesn’t lie with her, but him. He’s simply not the one for him. So she says: ”Maybe you’re just not the one. Or maybe you’re just plain……. DUMB.”

40: ‘Beautiful Dirty Rich’ by Lady Gaga

Steven and Natasha are still a couple. They are rich and their daughter, Gaga, gets the full benefit.

She is a beautiful young woman and a completely shameless party girl. She happily spends her parents’ money on watching sexual activities, getting expensive haircuts, buying tight, fashionable clothes and getting shitwrecked on drugs while dancing. She hangs out with young people just like herself: beautiful, dirty and rich.

When the money slips up, Gaga has no problem coming crawling to Steven with fake apologies in order to get more.

Their parents are public figures, so they are used to the press and expressing their lack of shame about their lifestyle in such a charming and sugar-sweet maner, they dance around potential scandals

38: ‘Back to the 80’s’ by Aqua

It was in the 80’s Natasha worked at Service and Devotion and first began dating Steven. This is now years ago and the two are sitting together watching the 80’s with technology, that makes it seem as if they are in fact back there when she helped Service and Devotion put satellites in space, before Harmony surpasses her and their then-boss, Ronald Reagan.

They see the trends of the 80’s again: Don Johnson from Miami Vice and his style, commodore 64, Soap,  Rocky, Cherry coke, Mr. T, Twisted Sisters on MTV, Iron Maiden, 7UP, Bananarama, Breakfast Club, David Hasselhoff, too many man with heavy make-up on, too many poodles with guitars and Ferris Bueller.

They agree, that those were the days. M&M was just a snack back then. Huey Lewis was the news. The two of them went flying with Tom Cruise.

Natasha sees the things, she loved in particular: Cosby, Rubik’s Cube, Dynasty, Moon Boots, Devo, Barber Curls, Poltergeist and Barbie Girls, all still standing tall, with a big smile on her face.

I recommend ‘Service and Devotion’, but ‘Steven’, ‘Natasha’ and ‘Natasha and Steven’ would also give you some background information as well as ‘They/Them’, I guess? There are a lot of tags, that might give some background information, but ‘Service and Devotion’ has the only necessary information, is what I’m saying.

Also: this is the second song that might suggest this race/species/whatever, these people are, can fly. I can’t wait until/if the narrative lets me explore that.

21: ‘No’ by Meghan Trainor

Natasha’s youth made her unwilling to being hit on. She considered herself untouchable. It has nothing to do with the individual guys – they might be sweet enough, but it’s simply not something she prioritised.

One time a shy guy attempted, encouraged by his friends. She rejected him before he even had a chance to speak.

This guy, however, wasn’t giving up, even as she kept turning down his compliments and attempts to ask her to dance, believing it to be him using deceiving means to achieve his ends.

He refused to give up, so she responded the way, she always did and encouraged her female friends to respond as well: ”My name is No, my sign is No and my number is No. You need to let it go.”

18: ‘9 to 5’ by Dolly Parton

Natasha works for Service and Devotion, owned by Them.

This is her daily routine:

She tumbles out of bed and stumbles to the kitchen. Yawning and stretching she tries to come to life. She jumps in the shower and feels the blood start pumping. Out on the street, the traffic starts jumping, as she makes her way to her 9 to 5-job.

She’s ambitious and works hard, but still barely gets by.Her boss gets all the credit, while she and her coworkers and friends, one of which is her friend from her youth, do all the work, leading to them basically putting money in his pocket, making him richer every day. She fully believes, this is his game and doesn’t listen to anyone telling her otherwise.

She both wants and thinks, she deserves a fat promotion, but the boss won’t seem to let her get it (she swears, at it sometimes feels like he’s out to get her personally…).

They allow the workers to dream of a better life but never lets them actually achieve it. They got them exactly where they want them and just need them to dream that they can get further, so they will work harder. They use the boss and his behaviour as a means to shatter the worker’s dreams in front of their eyes.

But They can’t convince Natasha to give up her dream. One day her ship will come in, the tide is going to turn and it’s all going to roll her way.
