106: ‘Not Afraid’ by Eminem

This is a flashback from when Slim, the rapper who was an inspiration to Sara, still had daughters to raise.

Slim was a rapper then too. He had a friend and a faith.

Then he went to a bad place; he started drinking.

Now he was out of it and he wanted to lead his fans who were also in a bad place out with him. Nothing would stop him from doing this.

He had not been popular while he was drinking. He had made some bad albums (named Infinite and Relapse) but kept making music. He was married to the game, and couldn’t stop. This made people doubt his talent and look down on him.

Dre, his friend had been particularly critical, not even recognising his work as rap. He had even insulted him publicly while calling himself king. Thus Slim had lost all respect for his former mentor and cut contact with him.

He promised his fans he would never let them down again. He even admitted that the Relapse album wasn’t very good. Maybe he ran the accents into the ground. He won’t go back to that again.

He was not just leading the fans out a dark place. He was saving himself from the dark cloud still following him around. He would face his own demons as well.

He wanted them to walk this road together, hand in hand, through the storm, cold and warm weather. The important thing was making clear that they were not alone.

This was also his way of paying back the fans for seeing him through his drinking.

Now he would not concern himself with haters and former friends. He would focus on his responsibilities as a father. He was strong enough to resist drinking and be an inspiration to his fans.

69: ‘Broken’ by Seether & Amy Lee

The Creator Of It All, known to her worshippers as Mother Mary, helps her worshippers by appearing in front of them, when they are in need of inspiration and helping them handle their issues. However, she does not concern herself with what happens next – as long as her worshippers are happy. This does not always garner good results. This is among the concerns, her only son, Abraham, has.

Wanting to please her son, she tries to refocus and fix the world.

She succeeds in making the worst issues go away.

This is a lot of work, though. She no longer has the time to help her worshippers when they need her. They start missing her – and she misses them. But now the worst is over and she should have more time for them again. Problem is that their faith in her is fading.

68: ‘Say Say Say’ by Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney

Dre, a worshipper of Mother Mary, The Creator Of It All, needs her to inspire him to move on with his life after loss and help him with his music. Dre has lost his son, more recently lost a woman, whom he loved, and in general, doesn’t know what to do with his life and creative work.

But unlike so many times before, Mother Mary does not appear before him. In desperation, he starts praying, not a normal practice in the belief in her, and continues doing so every day for years for years, but at no points does she appear, no matter how much he cries. Slim, his close friend, supports him in this. He starts to lose faith in her. They love her dearly but begins to feel that she is playing with them. Maybe she has become disappointed in them and that is why she is ignoring them.

They beg her to appear. They don’t care what she says at this point, as long as she shows that she hears them. They will even give her sacrifices, if it means, she won’t have left them.

67: This Is My Worry

‘Just Give Me A Reason’ by Pink ft. Nate Ruess

Abraham, the son of Mother Mary, The Creator Of All, lives a relatively normal life, complete with a longtime relationship.

She does not see all that Abraham sees. She does not see the state of the world that haunts him. And he doesn’t want her to see it. But he can’t stop himself from talking in his sleep. Words like “had enough”slip out. So his girlfriend hears his vague ramblings and thinks it’s about their relationship being broken.

One day she confronts him with her suspicions. Telling him, how she loved him from the start and how he fixed all the wrong things about her. She tells him, that they’re not broken and can back their relationship back on track. They just have to work on it – and they should, because they are meant to be together.

She just needs to know why he feels this way.

Abraham doesn’t want to tell her, what is actually bothering him. Instead, he pretends to not understand what she is talking about, saying it’s all in her mind and due to her recent nightmares. He tells her, how dear she still is to him.

She doesn’t buy it easily and keeps insisting that it’s in fact happening.

He is not as convincing as his inspiring mother, so they end the discussion on agreeing to work on their relationship.

66: My, My, How The Seasons Go By

‘Ex’s and Oh’s’ by Elle King

The young man, whom Mother Mary, The Creator Of All, inspired to brag less about his sexual experience, did get him to be more honest. It paid off. He meets a woman named Elle, who gives him actual experience.

But Elle isn’t the loyal type and eventually leaves him in her dust. She does this a lot, living a rootless existence, travelling the world and picking up men and keeping them until she moves on again.

After moving on, she goes to California, and then to the UK. She then moves on again, taking a summer lover in New Orleans, staying all the way until spring, before she leaves again.

Each time she leaves, the men get heart-broken and sometimes find her again, attempting to reconnect with her. They simply won’t let her go.

65: Mother Mary

‘Scotland’ by The Lumineers

The Creator Of It All is known to her worshippers as Mother Mary.

They hold on to her, because they need something to hold on to, when society gives them hell. She inspires the living and cares for the dead. She is in control of everything and everyone by the power of her words.

A man named Steven, a devoid worshipper, has just killed his wife and is about to kill himself. So she appears before him and inspires him to live on, to not give up on life.

She is powerful and difficult to understand, having little mythos surrounding her. But worshippers feels her immense power and gets strength from that.
