2018, chapter 38: ‘Lithium’ by Evanescence (nr. 150)

History wants to happen. So when one sister gets rid of a curse, the other is cursed instead. In her, it turns into the ability to convince people to do as she wishes. She has kept in check with something called Lithium. But after she broke up with her lover, she needed it to rally her troops, who formerly had been a group of violent individuals creating havoc. She turned them into an army fighting a war. And she has to keep using her powers to keep them motivated.

But like with her sister, the powers have as much control over her, as she has over them. She feels empty, sad and wanting something real. At the same time, though, she feels powerful and truly herself in a way she couldn’t with Lithium. Lithium locked her up inside and made her feel less.

She loves her sadness and darkness and finds herself in it. But at the same time, she hates it and wishes she could let it go.

She invites another man into her bed, so she doesn’t have to sleep alone. But he showcases her emptiness rather than hide it. She lashes out and blames him for not saying he loves her.

He cowers but does not leave. She sees his reaction, forgives him and calls him Darling. After all, anything is better than to be alone.

Once she is alone again, she curls up in a corner. She can feel that her having these powers, and feeling this, is wrong somehow. Something is wrong with her

But she needs her powers, needs to let them loose, to get what she wants. She has to fall into this feeling and keep the fight going.

2018, chapter 27: ‘Better Man’ by Little Big Town (nr. 139)

Will and Taylor have had different problems throughout their relationship. In the beginning, cursed magic that made her have to sabotage all of her relationships, including the one with Will. But they managed through that, and there were good times. And Taylor wants those good times back. She still loves him. And he loves her.

He wants to give her a gift. He has worked on a way to control time. And he has now reached a level at which he could erase things from history. In this case, the event that made a young innocent girl into a woman magically controlling men. He changes time so that she never gets her magical abilities, hoping that it’ll clear up their relationship.

Fortunately for him, the relationship still happens. And in the beginning, it is a lot more stable. They are themselves from the start and don’t break up over and over again

Unfortunately, he forgot that he himself was part of the problem. His dislike of change and how he would respond to it, hand in hand with the very focus that led him through med school and later to learn how to control time (eventually leading to his neglecting Taylor). His strong jealousy didn’t make things better either.

So when the changes are made, he finds himself in a timeline in which she has left him. Without her powers, his desire to be in control got out of hand and he damaged her permanently, before finally driving her away. He took for granted that she would never leave and thus talked down to her and pushed away any loving concerns she tried to bring his attention to. But after a while, she had enough. If he didn’t know what he had, he could be without. She gave him her best, and he couldn’t say the same.

What he doesn’t know is that she still misses him, even though she knows leaving was the best thing to do and that she is better off on her own.

She still wishes he could have been a better man. They might still have been in love. He could have been the one.

Failing that, she wishes she could forget the magic, so she wouldn’t still feel his arms around her in the middle of the night.

2018, chapter 11: ‘I’m Yours’ by Alessia Cara (nr. 123)

Taylor has made her ex her slave through magic. She did this because he had tricked her into being docile by being jealous and buying her love. He had controlled her, and when that no longer worked, he had kicked her out and kept her away from their child.

Now she has their child back. And she controls him completely.

Problem is that her enslavement involves him being completely and utterly in love with her and constantly trying to charm her. And damn is that man charming. She falls right back in love with him. She chooses to remove her control over him. And shockingly, he still wants her back. He still calls her beautiful.

And it pisses her off that he has still this effect on her. Melting her heart of iron and tearing down her walls of rudeness. She was so used to boys using her in the past and reacted to that by manipulating them. But Will was always real with her. When they first met, she felt lonely. He made her happy. So happy, she spent their time apart daydreaming about their life together.

So she’ll give him a chance. But he has to handle her with caution. Few have made her feel this way or pushed her as far as he has. The thought of falling for him again scares her, but if he promises to catch her, it okay. If he does that, she’s his. It still pisses her off, though.

2018, chapter 10: ‘Cheap Thrills’ by Sia (nr. 122)

When Will started dating Taylor, she seemed magical. That was because, well, she was. She had an aura of perfection that made people see the kind of girl they wanted her to be. It rose like a song inside her and made her able to control them. She learned to control it to some degree – and to use it to control men. When she danced, her control over men becomes stronger. And she liked using that when picking up men.

At its core, though, it is a curse that she has to keep in check. In a relationship, it is difficult to tell if they’re seeing her or their perfect dream girl. In order to test when it became real, she would act crazy and jealous. As soon as he realised, she knew it was real. The stronger her love, the better she was at keeping it in check.

This lead to her boyfriends breaking up with her and getting back together with her over and over again. And so it started with Will. But with Will, it became more real than ever before. After countless breakups, he became clear-headed enough to break up with her for good.

That made Taylor realise that she couldn’t lose him, so she made him feel jealous, making no use of magical control. It worked and they stayed together for years, even had a child.

But then Will broke up with her again and even cut her off from seeing her child. He believed that he did this for the child, but it resulted in Taylor following them around from a distance. Possibly because of her fading love (and thus increasing her control over him), he allowed her to stalk them.

But then, he saw her with another man and jealousy worked its own magic once again. So he confronted Taylor and promised that she could have him and their old life back.

And Taylor realised that just like her genuine love had removed her control over Will, it had put her under his control instead. She suddenly sees his generous gifts as another way to keep her docile. And she was not going to let him win her back like this.

So she stops controlling herself entirely. Like turning on a radio, the song inside her rises to new levels. She dances and takes complete control of his mind, makes him completely devoted to her. He becomes her slave. And she enjoys actively using her curse again.

Her lover, the only man she has actively tried to push away was not impressed with her actions. She can live with losing him though.

26: ‘A to the B’ by Infernal

Harmony’s new perspective on guys is a result not only of her youth but also of her first experiences outside the country song of her youth.

At first, she was once coy, using persuasion to get guys. The guys loved it. But it was hard work for her and easy for them . They merely had to show pleasure in seeing her (and they couldn’t hide that anyway, so that was not impressive…). One guy, in particular, took advantage of it. She was head over heels for him, he kept denying he an actual relationship.

She got fed up with that and decided to be demanding and expect the guys to do the work of charming her from then on.

She brings this attitude with her to work, where she manages to combine demands and acting coy to get the boss to treat her well.  She gains control over him as well as other male coworkers with words alone: ”You see, it seems to me that all us strong, independent women make men lazy.  All of a sudden, they think they don’t have to court us properly.  But boys let me tell you something: there’s nothing like a man who knows how to treat a lady.”

They will do anything for her. Cross an ocean, cross a sea…

They take notice of that and promote her to become the boss.

She’s brilliant at it and motivates them to work hard for her.
