14: ‘The Ballad of Serenity’ by Sonny Rhodes

They murdered Pink.

They burned Brad and Pink’s house and lands to the ground.

The heat boiled Brad and Pink’s little lake.

And they took Brad and locked him up in a room so small, he can’t stand up and so dark, he can barely see.

He wasn’t alone. He sits with a few other people. He kept telling himself, this wasn’t real, that he was still at home with Pink. The Young Pink helped him. In his mind, he found serenity in having her by his side and couldn’t bring himself to believe, that it isn’t, despite what the other prisoners said. The prison guards believed, their efforts were fruitless and that he wasn’t coming back to the real world.

And so far they were right. He refused to let go of his little bit of sky in the closed-up-reality – and he felt free. And when he finally realised, that it wasn’t a dream,.he took that feeling with him.

9: ‘Prison Bound’ by Social Distortion

Pink’s father, Distortion, is going back to prison. He has been in and out of it many times and fully expects to go back there, once he gets out again. He gives word to Pink to inform her of his sentence and tell her, he’ll be out again one day, purposely not specifying when.

The system, personified in a prison guard named Johnny, keeps telling him, that Distortion’s time here will reform him, but Distortion knows better. Whichever lesson they’re trying to teach him will probably never catch on.

The prison lies on the outskirts of town and the railroad goes straight by. Distortion shares a cell with three other men. It’s cold and clammy, but he understands he has to do his time.
