2018, chapter 45: ‘Before He Cheats’ by Carrie Underwood (nr. 157)

Carrie has lost her husband. He was the one to leave her, but it was not a surprise to her. She knew he was cheating on her.

It had led her to stand outside a bar he had gone into.

She thought about how he was probably slow dancing with a bleached-blond tramp, and she was probably getting frisky. He was probably buying her some fruity little drink ’cause she couldn’t shoot whiskey. Then he was probably up behind her with a pool stick, showing her how to shoot a combo. She was probably up singing some white-trash version of Shania karaoke. She was probably saying “I’m drunk”, making him think, he was gonna get lucky. So he was probably dabbing on 3 dollars worth of that bathroom Polo right now…

She was furious and looking for revenge. So she dug her keys into the side of his pretty little souped-up four-wheel drive and carved her name into his leather seats. She took a Louisville slugger to both headlights and slashed a hole in all four tires.

She smiled to herself. Maybe next time he’d think before he cheated. She might have saved the next girl a little trouble from him. At the very least, he wouldn’t cheat on her again.

2018, chapter 25: ‘True Love’ by P!nk (feat. Lily Allen) (nr. 137)

Taylor is trying to convince the man she loves and has been with for years to treat her better. She believes herself too good for his neglect of her.

What Will hears is that she believes herself too good for him, and what was an honest attempt at communication, he sees as the beginning of another fight. Taylor almost gets pulled in, and gets angry, but pulls herself back enough to continue her attempt for honest communication – just in an angry tone of voice. Through gritted teeth and insults, she tells him that despite how mean he can be, she truly loves him. She’s the only man she has ever truly loved. She hates him so much, it must be real love because no one else can break her heart like he can. She wants to hug him and wrap her hands around his neck at the same time.

All she’s asking is that he thinks about her feelings and is a bit more romantic.

59: ‘Whole Foods Parking Lot’ by DJ dave

Dre, a famous long time rapper, has a foul language, but no temper.

But when getting back in the rap game, he starts embracing anger a little.

This shows up one time he was going shopping for groceries at Whole Foods at his home area West side of LA.

First when a hybrid wants to steal his parking space going the wrong way. Then when people with clip boards looking at him, like they know him. The shopping cards are too small. Some girl in yoga pants is looking at him funny. The prices are way too high, for instance on Pinot Noir. They are out of Humboldt Fog. A guy on his phone is standing in the way of the Quinoa. The express lane is moving hella slow

This layers on as annoyance for a long time, but he doesn’t say anything. Out loud anyway.

58:’My Proper Tea’ by Doc Brown

Dre is getting back into the rap game. Rage is key to rap, but Dre does not have much. Only one thing can make him near homicidal.

That is when Slim offers to make him a cup of tea – and makes it wrong. He puts in the milk first and lets the tea bag there brewing and the sugar lying at the bottom to disintegrate itself.

So for Dre’s big comeback, he raps about the proper way to make a cup of tea: tea bag in first, pour the water on top (so you know how much milk is required) and stirring the sugar into the tea.
