95: ‘That’s What I Like’ by Bruno Mars

Will has come into money. Lots of money. And now he wants to spend it on Taylor, his girlfriend. Anything she wants. And if she doesn’t know what to ask for, he has suggestions:

Coming to his recently acquired condo in Manhattan
Or renting a beach house in Miami
lobster tail for dinner
Or his new assistant, Julio, can get her scampi
money
a ride in his new Cadillac
Gold jewelry
strawberry champagne
Silk sheets
white diamonds
trips to Puerto Rico
shopping sprees in Paris

Whatever she wants, it’s hers. And he’ll enjoy giving it to her. He likes to see her smile and promises she will never have a reason not to anymore.

One day she gets a call from his wife, Evanescence. The wife who apparently doesn’t know that he had cheated on her, which he had led Sara to believe.

Sara assures her, that he need not know anything about her flirting. Not yet, anyhow. She should wait for the exact right time to tell him.

Two months later they finally meet each other at the husband’s funeral. both the preacher and his brother have good things to say about him, but the two women don’t even cry. They do all things you’re supposed to do: put a rose down and throw a handful of dirt in the grave, but all with dry eyes. But Evanescence also throws down a letter telling him everything. She has not said anything to him while he was alive.

Sara sees her do it. They smile knowingly and both walk away.

92: ‘She’s Out Of Her Mind’ by blink 182

Will and Taylor have always had an on again/off again relationship. After they skip their latest breakup, they just stop breaking up.  And being together for a longer stretch of time means that surfaces start falling away.

Taylor stops being Will’s perfect dream girl and starts being genuine: An antisocial girl, who likes Bauhaus and is a little crazy sometimes. Not the batshit-crazy jealous woman, she turns into just before their breakups, she just loses her head sometimes. And she’s self-aware enough to apologise for it. And Will finds that he actually really likes the real Taylor.

Taylor sees a deeper layer of Will too. Perhaps a bit deeper than Will himself sees. She sees him working hard on his studies, but he doesn’t seem passionate about it. And she’s worried about him. So one night she tries to tell him that, but it turns into a fight, during which she calls him a know-it-all and he argues that by being a doctor he would help people, so so what if he doesn’t love every moment of his studies? In the end, she admits to having lost her head a bit and apologises.

She does realise that this might not be a good way to deal with her issues, but she doesn’t care.

So she makes him jealous by saying she’s okay with that because she has been sleeping with someone while they were apart anyway.

It works. Will no longer wants to lose her and wants her to assure him, that she thought of him, even as she was with this other man. He convinces her that he is smarter and a better kisser and lover than any boy she’ll ever meet.

So they stay together. And of course, like all the times before, they start to fight. After only a slight awakening, they are back to their own teenage brand of love.
