2018, chapter 32: ‘America’s Sweetheart’ by Elle King (nr. 144)

Bruno is a Heathen. He bonds with his recruiter. Her hometown said she was too loud and she’d never be the poster type. But she wasn’t going to change for anyone. So she lit a match and burned it down.

She’s coarse and likes it. She drinks too much and wears old boots. She’s got bad tattoos and a chip in her front teeth. She is cold-hearted and breaks the hearts of every man she’s been with (causing them to say that she has no soul).

She’s still loud. She still likes blowing things up and getting her hands dirty – and now she can do it for a cause.

Bruno comments on her behaviour after he has won her respect.

She replies cheerily: “what do you want from me? I’m not America’s sweetheart. You love me anyway.”

2018, chapter 31: ‘Grenade’ by Bruno Mars (nr. 143)

People become heathens for different reasons. Bruno became one after having been abused by his girlfriend.

He loved her more than anything. He would catch a grenade for her, throw his hand on a blade for her, jump in front of a train for her, take a bullet for her. And he just wants her to love him just as much.

She doesn’t. She does say, that she loves him, but she’s lying. She wouldn’t do the same for him. In fact, she beats him and damages his car. She takes all she can because she knows that she can easily lose it.

He should have known. He remembers, how she had her eyes open for their first kiss.

But he still loves her and would still go through all that pain, even die for her, even though he knows she won’t do the same for him.

2018, chapter 30: ‘Good Times’ by All Time Low (nr. 142)

Little Mix is trying to talk some sense into Chainsmoker. From her perspective anyway. Chainsmoker sees her concerns but doesn’t agree with them. She tries to tell her that it’s alright. She gets it. She remembers how their friendship and movement started; driving together, singing under the stars. And she’ll never forget.

And while the “punks” in their movement have started picking fights with skater kids in the city, she still remembers when it was just the two of them laughing ’til they cried. how they, with a “Devil may care”-attitude and middle fingers up, angrily challenged society. She’ll never forget, how they first started recruiting people, seeking out boys in black smoking cigarets and girls, who didn’t know love yet and saving them from it.

And she knows that one day, she’ll probably have to leave her lover. She doesn’t want to and will absolutely hate it, but she’ll probably do it. Just not yet.

So really, Little Mix has nothing to worry about. Chainsmoker will never forget what they set out to do and she will always be her friend.

2018, chapter 29: ‘Break Up Every Night’ by The Chainsmokers (nr. 141)

Taylor still misses her ex. But she is not single. She’s in a non-committed relationship. She’s very conflicted over this and breaks up with her boyfriend every night, saying that she needs space, time and reason. But then the very same night she changes her mind and says she needs him now.

It’s a little crazy – as is she. She has seven personalities, everyone one a tragedy. They change all the times, to the point where he is never sure which one he is currently with. One moment she can pretentious (for instance claiming a sense of belonging to Paris, despite having only been to France one time), the next more realistic, the next again jealous and concerned

Her boyfriend kinda loves it though and keeps building on the relationship, even if her personality changes make him run around in circles and have doubt. His nights with her makes him feel alive.
