23: ‘The Only Exception’ by Paramore

Pink didn’t want to fall in love. Pink didn’t believe in love. She knew, it never lasted after observing, what happened to her parents.

She saw Distortion, her father, cry and curse at the wind when she visited him. She never told Dixie, her mother, about these visits. Judging from how Dixie talked about Distortion, Pink knew, she neither would like nor understand, why Pink would want to.

Distortion was heartbroken and knew full well that it was his fault, Dixie had left. But he tried to reassemble his heart as best he could.

Dixie swore she would never let herself forget how he treated her and how that made her feel.

So Pink learned to live alone and swore off love because getting it wasn’t worth the risk of losing it.

Brad turned out to the exception. When he asked her out, they had known each other forever and she could trust to still be there the next day. She still knew, it wouldn’t last, but she simply couldn’t let go of him.

And she was on her way to believing in love.
